NATURAL ROOTS
Natural Roots is an authentic Roots Reggae band established in 2004 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Founded by Jan van der Beek (lead singer and songwriter) and Esi Lautaimi (bass), the band has become a symbol of conscious reggae music with deep cultural ties. Composed of Pacific Islander members with heritage from New Zealand, Tonga, and Samoa, their music carries messages of unity, faith, and social awareness.
Their 2012 album Words of Jah gained international recognition, earning the #3 spot on Reggaeville.com’s best reggae albums list that year. Natural Roots takes pride in creating original music steeped in the traditions of Roots Reggae and Dub, always emphasizing that “the message is in the music.”
